Optics

Ealing offers a comprehensive range of optical components including optical filters, mirrors, beamsplitters, polarisers and optical coatings.

Shown on the following pages are a wide range of standard optics that will meet many of the more common requirements for laser and photonic applications. They have been designed and manufactured to meet the needs of researchers in lasers, photonics and development engineers and scientists.

Introduction to Optics - theory & properties

Optics are commonly used in laser systems as well as a wide range of non-laser applications. Selection of the appropriate component is dependent on a number of factors. Laser optics must not only perform the required task but they must withstand illumination with, often high energy, laser radiation. Here we give you an introduction to optics theory & properties of optical materials.

Lenses

Ealing produce lenses in a wide range of forms, materials and sizes. For visible wavelengths and infrared up to 2.5 microns, BK-7 glass is preferred. In the UV below 350 nm, fused silica or Calcium Fluoride is the best solution. Applications where there are excessive thermal conditions may require the use of sapphire lenses. Germanium and Zince Selenide are best suited to the Infrared above 2 microns.

Bandpass Filters

Bandpass interference filters are available for a wide range of centre wavelengths (CWL) and bandwidths, specified as the "full width at half maximum" (FWHM), Narrower bandwidths naturally cause a lower transmission, but Ealing filters are designed to have the maximum possible peak transmission for a given pass.

Optical Filters

Asahi Spectra introduces a wide range of filters, including bandpass filters, Hg filters for Photolithography, fluorescence filters, and cold mirrors as well as Image quality filters for Astronomy.

MORE INFORMATION

Neutral Density Filters

Neutral density filters are used to control the intensity level without affecting the spectral response of the system. They are normally specified in terms of their optical density which is defined as the logarithm of the ratio of intensities in the incident and transmitted beams.

MORE INFORMATION

Photolithography Filters

Asahi Spectra introduces the photolithography filters, including i-line bandpass filter and cold mirror.

MORE INFORMATION

Colour Glass Filters

Colour glass filters are absorbing glass filters, and are the simplest form of colour filter. The transmission curves for each type of glass are well known and repeatable. Thickness of the filter defines the actual transmission. These filters are ground to a specified thickness and polished to produce a given spectral transmission.

MORE INFORMATION

Short & Long Pass Filters

Short and Long Pass Filters exhibit a sharp transition from a spectral region of attenuation to one of transmission. Because they attenuate by reflection, they can be used in either transmissive or reflective mode. The cut-on /cut-off wavelength (COWL) is the wavelength at which the transmission is 50% of its peak value.

Mirrors

Ealing offers a range of mirrors in aluminium, gold and silver with a variety of coatings:

Optical Slits

Precision Optical Slits are commonly used for generating a line spread function, as entrance and exit slits in spectrophotometers and in a wide range of imaging and alignment applications.

MORE INFORMATION

Precision Air Slits

Precision Air Slits are micro-machined from solid opaque material. They can be used in all the same applications as Optical Slits. Since they do not rely on transmission through glass they are not wavelength dependent. In addition there is no coating and hence no possibility of pinhole effects in high power applications. Ealing Precision Air Slits are individually micro-machined in a 9.5 mm diameter stainless steel disc.

Pinholes

Ealing UV/Visible Laser Pinholes are specifically designed to work with most UV and visible lasers, such as Ar Ion, HeNe, or Kr. They are made from a specially developed molybdenum alloy, allowing for high power CW usage.

MORE INFORMATION

Precision Pinholes

Precision Pinholes can be used in a wide variety of optical applications, including spatial filtering, creating point light sources, photography and Image analysis and processing.

MORE INFORMATION

Polarisers

Ealing offers a range of Sheet, Calcite, Glan Laser and Glan Taylor polarisers.

MORE INFORMATION

Prisms

Ealings extensive range of prisms comprise the following:- Laser quality right angle prisms, Laboratory quality right angle prisms, Equilateral prisms, Anamorphic prism pairs, Penta prisms, Dove prisms, Brewster prisms, Littrow prisms.
